We invite applications for a post-doctoral position in cryptographic currency and applications. The successful candidate will join Dr. Yuliang Zheng’s research group in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB). 

This 2-year position is available immediately. The salary (~$60,000 per year plus benefits) will depend on the research experience. UAB provides a highly collegial and interactive environment, with an active Office of Post-doctoral Education providing mentoring and career guidance.  

The post-doctoral scholar will work with Dr. Yuliang Zheng, who chairs the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, on the investigation of fundamental theories and technologies that underpin new generations of digital currencies including Bitcoin, Ripple  and other cryptocurrencies. Of particular interest are the block chain and other related methods for large scale, peer-to-peer and decentralized consensus. The second objective is to design and implement a new digital currency that offers long term resilience and security against powerful attacks that might emerge in future, including quantum and other forms of unconventional computing. The third objective is to investigate both theoretical foundations and disruptive applications of decentralized consensus protocols in such areas as smart contracts, decentralized trading, the Internet of Things, governance, certification and other forms of distributed trust.

Applicants must have recently completed or be about to complete their PhD degrees in computer science or a related field, and should have a solid understanding of modern cryptography and distributed computing as well as excellent skills in programming for various computing platforms ranging from smartphones and laptop computers to modern servers.
