POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW – A postdoctoral fellow position is open to study airway remodeling and lung inflammation in pediatric viral lung infection. The overarching focus of the laboratory is to study a novel paradigm of protease potentiation as a critical mechanism that underlies the pathogenesis of common respiratory virus such as Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and the ensuing inflammation in airway and lung. Primary projects involve delineating viral-host response during acute infection, and includes use of established in vitro and in vivo models.

The selected candidate will be expected to apply a wide variety of specialized & advanced techniques, primarily in cell and molecular biology, and in handling animal models. Candidates who have experience with viral cultures and molecular and cell biology training will be strongly considered. The applicant will have opportunity to develop multiple projects using cell culture and animal models in a collaborative environment. The position requires performing and designing experiments, writing manuscripts for publications, and a high level of self-motivation and independence. The successful candidate must be interested in pursuing an independent research effort upon successful completion of the fellowship

Specific skills required:
 
  • Preparation and storage of infectious agents
  • Able to work with cells in culture
  • Able to analyze microRNA and mRNA expression
  • Able to perform human sample processing
  • Able to perform activity assays
  • Able to perform image analysis and morphometry for lung development
  • Able to handle and work with lab animals (mice)
