Job Summary

The Development and Programs Intern reports directly to the Office and Volunteer Coordinator. Primary responsibilities are within the organizational development department. This consists of writing grant and partnership proposals, researching potential event spaces and assisting with event planning, writing language to be used for grants and publicity purposes, etc. Please note the responsibilities below are examples of possible tasks the intern will undertake while at Art Access. This is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all duties. Specific tasks will be assigned weekly based on organizational needs. This position is for 10 – 20 hours a week. More time may be required during event weeks.

Art Access is a community partner of Salt Lake Community College’s Thayne Center for Service and Learning. The Thayne Center for Service & Learning provides a supportive and inclusive office for students to explore community involvement, leadership, and volunteerism. By providing opportunities in conjunction with local nonprofits we cultivate an environment to test our student’s interests and area of study while assisting them to realize they have the knowledge and skills to affect positive change in our community. Though the position will be a direct placement at Art Access, the Thayne Center for Service and Learning will administer the orientation, enrollment, and exit from the Community Work Study program and will act as an on-campus supervisor.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Assist with implementation of new development software (Neon CRM) Writing & Research
• Assist Office Coordinator with researching potential new foundation, corporate, and government grant funds or large gifts
• Write content for year-end Annual Report
• Write and edit grant proposals (both letters/one pagers and larger scale grants)
• Assist Development Coordinator with creation of a tracking system for all grant reports

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued

Fundraising Events//Campaigns
• Write and mail formal Thank You letters to all donors
• Researching potential new spaces for 300 Plates
• Inputing sponsorship data and donations into gift software
• Brainstorming ideas for growth opportunities (300 Plates)
• Other duties as assigned

Event Development: Palate Fundraiser
• Research potential organizational partners/sponsors
• Assist with writing proposals for potential organizational partners/sponsors

Outreach Responsibilities
• Assist with development of marketing materials (program, posters, invitations, etc).
• Create posts for Art Access Instagram and Facebook and promote work we are doing within our gallery and community
• Represent Art Access at community and campus events

Misc. • Assist Finance Director with filings
• Assist with mailings
• Assist with keeping office space organized and free of clutter

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite products is a plus
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Understanding of nonprofit budgeting process

Minimum Qualifications

- Must have a SLCC Federal Work-Study Award
- Must work at least 10 hours a week during the semester
- Must pass a background check
- Attend all Thayne Center orientations and trainings related to this program.
- Must have reliable transportation

- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Special Instructions

Work Study is awarded to SLCC students through the Federal College Work Study Program, which requires establishing financial need through the FAFSA online application from the Financial Aid office. If you do not have work study awarded to you, you will not be eligible to work under work study positions.
