Essential functions: 100% of time

  • Provide individualized career coaching to ensure students and alumni are prepared to plan, take action, and be accountable for managing their career and professional goals throughout the student lifecycle

  • Respond to/follow up with career coaching inquiries received via email, phone, website, Brandman CareerLink chat, social media; assist with support, communication, and outreach for students and alumni

  • Collect and analyze career coaching survey and feedback form data from students, and alumni

  • Provide feedback to resume and cover letter review submissions and conduct mock interviews

  • Engage in contact with students and alumni through campus visits, telephone, mail, social media, and electronic communications to promote and ensure an accurate understanding of career coaching and Career Services offerings and services

  • Develop, present, and facilitate webinars, workshops, and videos on various career topics including but not limited to value of career coaching, resumes, cover letters, job search, interviewing, networking

  • Assist the Director of Career Planning and Development with scheduling, organizing, and coordination of information sessions, workshops, webinars, recruiting events, and career fairs

  • Update and edit Career Services website using Sharepoint

  • Represent Career Services at various external and campus events

  • Assist with day to day management of online job portal Brandman CareerLink including but not limited to: employer and student communication, employer and job posting management, technical support, system maintenance, CareerLink chat, reporting, surveys, announcements, and trainings

  • Provide support to other areas of Career Planning and Development as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Special Conditions of Employment: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. Position may require flexible hours particularly given campuses' extended hours of operation. Applicants for this position are subject to a background check. A valid driver's license and vehicle for travel is needed.

Previous Experience:


  • 1-3 years directly related experience in career coaching, human resources, career services, coaching, higher education and/or other related fields; demonstrated experience in customer service/student service

  • A strong understanding of career paths, career exploration and self-assessment, career issues and program culture, extensive knowledge of the employment market and hiring/job search practices

  • Organize career coaching meeting to include resume and cover letter review, interview preparation (including mock interviews), job search tools, resources, strategies, professional and educational goal planning, career exploration, self-assessment, negotiations, networking, career advancement, and LinkedIn

  • Demonstrated professional communication skills, presentation and public speaking skills, strategic planning and decision making ability, and problem solving skills/resolution

  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and quantitative skills, demonstrating ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, either online, via phone, or in person

  • Working knowledge of federal regulations such as Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to student accommodation

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a supportive, calm service demeanor when dealing with upset or challenging students/clients

  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize workload and provide coaching and advice to assigned students in a timely manner

  • Ability to abide by the ethical standards and guidelines for career coaching

  • Computer skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, electronic mail and internet applications, preferably of Microsoft Office Suite software

  • Demonstrated skills to perform outreach and conduct persuasive public presentations of educational programs

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Brandman University's mission, catalog, policies, and procedures

  • Familiarity/comfort with computers, data basing, social media, blogs, and web page design and editing
    Working knowledge of and experience in the application of adult learning principles and higher education policies

Knowledge and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Master's degree preferred in human resources counseling, higher education or related field
    Career Development Facilitator (CDF) Certification

Machines, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices and Software: Office Suite (required), NACELink Symplicity (desired); Adobe Connect (desired);Sharepoint (desired); Fax, telephone, copier, and printers

License(s) and Certificate(s): Career Development Facilitator (desired), a valid driver's license and vehicle for travel
