The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) is an administrative position with faculty rank. Reporting to the Chair of the Occupational Therapy Program, the AFWC is responsible for all functions related to the fieldwork education portion of the occupational therapy program. The AFWC plans, coordinates, facilitates, administers, and monitors fieldwork placements on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic faculty. The AFWC serves as a liaison between the occupational therapy program and the fieldwork education site as part of his/her responsibilities. The AFWC is expected to fulfill limited responsibilities in teaching in areas of expertise, advising, scholarship and community service in addition to the management and administration of the fieldwork program.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In cooperation with other academic faculty the AFWC is responsible for establishing fieldwork education sites, evaluating fieldwork education sites, and facilitating ongoing development of them.

  • Developing and maintaining currency of contracts and memorandums of understanding (MOUs) for all fieldwork sites.

  • Actively engaging in planning, implementation, and assessment of core fieldwork education with primary responsibility for developing, monitoring, and refining the fieldwork education component of the curriculum.

  • Responsibility for all courses associated with fieldwork education. Will teach one additional course and/or participate in laboratory components of additional courses based on departmental needs and clinical expertise.

  • Facilitating quality learning experiences for students during fieldwork education,

  • Establishing and maintaining documented records of student fieldwork education including assessment of all components of the fieldwork education (includes fieldwork education sites, fieldwork educators, etc).

  • Evaluating student performance, in cooperation with other faculty, to determine their ability to integrate didactic and fieldwork learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum.

  • Monitoring and documenting compliance with ACOTE standards particularly the “C” standards associated with fieldwork education and clinical internships. Including responsibility for reporting, in conjunction with the Chair, for ACOTE reports.

  • Developing new protocols, procedures and documentation related to fieldwork as needed.

  • Participate in faculty led clinical internships, fieldwork and experiential learning (i.e pro-bono clinic, or other community projects).

  • Overseeing student compliance with all training, immunizations and fingerprinting required by the institution and fieldwork sites in order to optimize student safety

  • Supporting Fieldwork Educators to enhance their supervision by regular monitoring of student progress, identifying continuing education opportunities to improve supervision and assessment and evaluation of the quality of fieldwork supervision.

  • Working with other faculty members and the Chair of Occupational Therapy to enhance learning outcomes across the curriculum.

  • Preparing an annual individual development plan to be reviewed by the Chair of the OT program.

  • Supervising the day to day work flow and responsibilities of the Administrative Assistant for Fieldwork.

  • Maintaining student advising responsibilities, following policies and procedures documented in the Husson Faculty Forum Advising Manual and by maintaining office hours.

  • Participating in departmental meetings, retreats, committees and activities such as may include, but not be limited to, open house, OT class meetings, and/or student recruitment projects as well as serving on at least one Institutional committee.

  • Maintaining currency and contributing to their professional area of expertise by participating in scholarly activities as may be defined by the Faculty Handbook or ACOTE standards.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education:

The successful candidate will have at minimum an earned entry-level Masters degree. Preference will be given to applicants with an entry-level or post-professional doctorate. Masters prepared candidates must be willing to pursue a Doctoral degree. The candidate must be licensed, or eligible for licensure in Maine, hold current OTR certification by NBCOT, and be an AOTA member in good standing.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of clinical experience

  • Minimum of three years of fieldwork teaching and/or fieldwork coordination experience

  • Demonstrated area of clinical, academic and/or administrative expertise

Licensure:

  • In accordance with the requirements for Professional Licensing for Occupational Therapy in the State of Maine
