Job Summary: The Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Alabama (UA) has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral position in the field of High-Energy Physics with the CMS experiment.


Additional Department Summary: The focus of the position, supervised by Prof. Gleyzer, will be on searches for physics beyond the Standard Model with CMS, including novel uses of machine learning in physics and detector reconstruction, and CMS Phase-II calorimeter upgrades. The successful candidate will join the UA CMS group, led by Profs. Sergei Gleyzer, Conor Henderson and Paolo Rumerio, that is involved in measurement of the Higgs boson properties, searches for dark matter and physics beyond the Standard Model, and Phase-II detector upgrades. Additionally, the University of Alabama is involved in direct dark matter detection, the intensity frontier and particle astrophysics experiments (IceCube, Exo-200, LZ, MiniBoone, MoEDAL and VERITAS experiments) as well as high-energy theory and phenomenology.


Required Minimum Qualifications: PhD at time of appointment in High-Energy Physics or in a closely related discipline. Previous experience in high-energy physics analysis and machine learning will be considered an asset. The position is initially for 2 years with the possibility of renewal based on mutual agreement and availability of funds.
