Iona College seeks an innovative, strategic and collaborative leader to serve as its Dean of the LaPenta School of Business. As the academic leader and principal administrative officer, the dean will provide bold vision and leadership to lead the LaPenta School of Business at a critical juncture in its evolution.
Iona College, located 20 miles north of midtown Manhattan, is a diverse community of 3,000 undergraduate and 600 graduate learners and scholars from 32 states and 43 countries with a commitment to academic excellence in the tradition of American Catholic higher education. Celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2020, Iona is known for its liberal arts core curriculum, commitment to service and pre-professional programs offering nearly 50 undergraduate majors, more than 30 minors and over 40 graduate programs. Iona’s enhanced academic standing is evidenced by its national accreditations in business, computer science, education, journalism/mass communication, psychology, marriage and family therapy, chemistry and social work. The College offers a variety of learning opportunities for students from the academic rigor of the Honors program to its multi-faceted and increasingly diverse living and learning communities. The current capital campaign raised $114 million toward a $150 million goal, and will support scholarships, endowed professorships and academic programs, and improved learning and living environments.
Iona’s new dean of the LaPenta School of Business will oversee a period of significant innovation and growth at the College. A recent gift of $17.5 million from Trustee and business school alumnus Robert V. LaPenta ’67, ‘00H, initiated a major renovation and physical transformation of the business school building into a state-of-the-art teaching and learning environment scheduled for completion in spring 2020. The new building, recent faculty and administrative hires and forward-thinking academic improvements and contributions to both the MBA program and the College’s core curriculum will significantly enhance the learning and teaching experience for students, faculty and alumni alike.
Reporting to the provost, the dean will provide leadership for an AACSB International accredited school that enrolls 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students in five departments: Accounting; Finance, Business Economics, and Legal Studies; Information Systems and Business Analytics; Management, Business Administration, Health Care Management; and Marketing and International Business. With 46 full-time faculty and 27 adjunct faculty members, the school offers a rich environment for innovation, engagement and scholarship. The School also benefits greatly from its proximity to New York City as well as Greenwich and Stamford, Connecticut, drawing on business professionals of national repute who are both gifted teachers and practitioners, affording the opportunity for strong student-faculty relationships that are a hallmark of the LaPenta School of Business.
The successful candidate will be a highly collaborative, skilled and creative leader, maintaining the highest standards of academic excellence and possessing financial and managerial acumen. The dean will ensure a faculty-driven strategic planning process; ongoing assessment, development and approval of quality and innovative academic programs; the selection and continual development of the faculty; the enhancement of the school's regional and national reputation; and a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment for undergraduate and graduate students that supports their development and success beyond graduation. Candidates should possess a doctorate in a relevant field as well as evidence of distinguished teaching, research activity and service commitments that would merit appointment as a tenured faculty member.
