Seeking Postdoctoral Candidates for an NSF Medium Project: "Collaborative Research: Numerical Algebraic Differential Equations"
This project is under the guidance of Professor Chee Yap (in collaboration with Professors Alexey Ovchinnikov and Victor Pan at CUNY).
It addresses the fundamental problem of solving systems of algebraic differential equations, motivated by applications in such areas as cellular biology, approximation for chemical reaction systems, combinatorics, and analysis.
There are three general approaches to attack such problems:
(A) symbolic approach,
(B) numerical approach, and a
(C) hybrid symbolic-numeric approach.
Approach (A) has the strongest guarantees of reliability but are often too slow, while (B) produces corrupted outputs on singular and ill-conditioned inputs. This project will develop new certified techniques in approach (C).
The position is immediately available for one year, with options to extend to another year.
