OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Reporting to the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director of Educational Programs (Early Childhood Education) and (Teachers Prep Program) is responsible for overseeing and managing departments associated with their Program, including teaching personnel, and academic programs. The Director ensures that procedures, activities, and resources align with the quality, rigor, and accountability required by curricula standards. The Director works closely and collaboratively with Chairs, faculty and University leadership to achieve a strategic, student-centered approach to academics within the Department in support of the University's mission. 

This position supervises others as assigned, and also serves as a member of faculty. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Instructional Leadership:

  1. Assists with the development of curriculum and improvement, to include, but not limited to, reviewing, assessing, and revising.

  2. Develops and maintains contingency plans through which unforeseen changes may be accommodated.

  3. Assists with implementing a well-defined academic advisement program for students.

  4. Assists with the implementation of effective student recruitment and community outreach programs for attracting qualified students for the program.

  5. Provides leadership to faculty, in research, and other scholarly/creative activities.

  6. Provides leadership in the implementation of student outcomes assessment in the schools.

  7. Teaches a course-load per semester. Note: Because of the heavy responsibilities this position teaches a reduced course load (one-two fewer courses each semester than full-time Faculty.

  8. Performs other duties as assigned by the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Organizational Management:

  1. Assists with developing and reviewing curriculum.

  2. Coordinates the recruitment and selection of faculty for the program.

  3. Ensures the smooth interfacing of courses needed by students.

  4. Conduct evaluations of faculty (Early Childhood Education) & (Teachers Prep Program).

  5. Serves as a mentor to those faculty members who are aspiring toward the acquisition of leadership roles in academe.

  6. Serves as a role model to the faculty for continued research and scholarship involvement.

  7. Performs other duties as assigned by the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Institutional Leadership:

  1. Facilitates the accomplishment of long-range planning for the program.

  2. Ensures that the academic standards of the program are maintained.

  3. Ensures that the University's prestige is enhanced through professional activities, research, publication, and creative and scholarly activities.

  4. Regularly assesses strategic initiatives to address and anticipate changes in strategic plans, performance plans, economic forecasts, occupational outlook, and/or student needs.

  5. Manages the Early Childhood Education Program & Teachers Prep Program budget within established guidelines.

  6. Assures the management and integrity of all Early Childhood Education & Teachers Prep data in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

  7. Prepares required reports, analyzes data to determine student progress, enrollment trends labor market information and related data to draw conclusions and/or make recommendations for process improvements within the Department.

  8. Develops relationships and maintains effective communications with diverse groups, internal and external, in support of the institution's mission.

  9. Collaborates with the institution's Institutional Advancement Division to develop integrated marketing and strategic planning efforts on Early Childhood Education & Teachers Prep Program initiatives, progress, and outcomes to promote and manage the institution's image; represents the institution at functions upon request.

  10. Serves on administrative committees as assigned by the President.

  11. Participates in non-mandatory cultural and professional activities of the Program and University and encourages the attendance of other members of the faculty at University-sponsored activities.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned by Vice President for Academic Affairs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field; doctorate degree preferred.

  2. Related experience in a university setting preferred.

  3. Knowledge of trends and developments in early childhood education, teachers prep program and a demonstrated commitment to higher education.

  4. Proficiency in the use of research, statistical analysis, and information technologies.

  5. Experience with strategic communication and marketing skills, strong management skills, and the ability to relate effectively with multiple constituencies.

  6. Impeccable judgment and integrity.

  7. Ability to manage confidential information.

  8. Exceptional interpersonal, teambuilding and problem-solving skills.

  9. Knowledge of budget forecasting, preparation, and administration.
