About the role:

  • Conduct exploratory research, experiments, and analyses to produce knowledge and products.

  • Develop theories for understanding, characterizing, and organizing natural phenomena into a systematic and meaningful pattern for research into inventions, new products, or improved techniques for design, manufacturing, operation, or maintenance.

  • Develop research proposals and approaches to provide a technically and economically sound basis for developing and evaluating new or improved products, methods, processes, and analytical and physical testing techniques.

  • Maintain the technical excellence of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

Job Requirements

Advanced:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years relevant experience; or

  • Master’s degree in a science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years relevant experience

Senior:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years relevant experience; or

  • Master’s degree in a science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years relevant experience

  • PhD in a science-related field from an accredited college or university

Job Preferred Skills

Desired skills include:

  • experience with corrosion testing,

  • experience with designing experiments and explaining results,

  • experience with interpreting material characterization results,

  • knowledge of colloids and interfaces,

  • ability to develop models to predict corrosion or related phenomena.
