Postdoctoral Researcher Position in the department of Ophthalmology at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

Research will be conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Massimo A Fazio, at UAB. The position involves the develop custom computational algorithms to estimate the 3D mechanical deformations of the optic nerve head from optical coherence tomography clinical images.

The focus of his research will be to study the role of intraocular pressure in the biomechanical response of the optic nerve head structure and how these modulate glaucoma progression.

His/her duties will be:

  • Developing a custom method for tracking IOP-induced 3D deformations of the Optic Nerve Head (ONH) in optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans.

  • Correlate 3D deformations of the ONH from the structural OCT data with the onset and progression of glaucoma.

 Highly motivated candidates with strong research background in theoretical and computational bioengineering/biomechanics or related fields and with interests in the structure and function of biological soft tissue are especially encouraged to apply.  

 A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or a related field is required. Experience with programing in Mathematica, Java, C++, or Mathlab languages is required.
